What a DevOps course has to cover
DevOps is a loop. Code goes into version control, the pipeline builds and tests it, a release is cut, the release is deployed, and the team operates and monitors it in production. What they learn from monitoring feeds the next change.
Each stage has its usual tools: Git for code, Docker for builds, a CI/CD service such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD or Jenkins for testing and releasing, Kubernetes and Terraform for deploying, and a cloud such as AWS or GCP to run it all. No single course covers every tool in depth, so you have to decide whether you want the whole loop at once or one stage learned well.

The course sticks to one tool, so it won't cover the whole loop the way a bootcamp does. It's for developers who already deploy software and want to automate the build, test and deploy stages properly. The same author has a Jenkins course, if that is the CI server at your company.
How I chose
I used the same methodology as the other guides. For DevOps I looked at four things: how much of the loop the course covers, hands-on projects, freshness, and the entry level. For now I only compare courses on Udemy. I read every fact on the course page on September 28, 2026.
I left out Learn DevOps from in28Minutes (rated 4.5), the DevOps MasterClass from TechLynk (76.5 hours, rated 4.4, last updated in August 2025), Imran Afzal's Introduction to DevOps (rated 4.4) and the School of Devops bootcamp (rated 4.3). If you only need one tool, the Kubernetes and Terraform guides go deeper.

Do I need to know how to code to learn DevOps?
You need to be comfortable in a terminal and read scripts and YAML files. KodeKloud's bootcamp is marked for beginners and is the gentler start.
Which tools should I learn first?
Git and Docker come before everything else, because every later stage builds on them. Then a CI/CD tool, then Kubernetes and Terraform.
Is there a DevOps certification?
There is no single DevOps exam. People usually certify on the tools: a cloud exam (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud), Kubernetes (CKA) or Terraform (Terraform Associate).
